Published 1/25/2002

The new 55,000-sf Digestive Disease Center for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, is the largest specialty facility of its kind in the nation. Designed by van Dijk Pace Westlake Architects, the $10 million Center joins together the departments of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Colorectal Surgery. van Dijk Pace Westlake Architects renovated the third floor of the Cleveland Clinic's Crile Building. The purpose of the project is to combine all of the disciplines related to digestive disease in one outpatient facility. Diagnostic and treatment areas include a four-room motility suite for swallowing disorders; a 10-room endoscopy unit with a 30-bed recovery room; a 16-room colorectal procedure/examination area; a 14-room GI exam room suite; and a six-room Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. All clinical areas include patient education rooms. Waiting areas are subdivided by specialty. The Center also includes office space for Gastroenterology and Colorectal Surgery staff and physician, and central chart processing.

MidCon Construction of Cleveland was general contractor for the project, which was completed in 2001. Interior design and FFE was provided by Milan Bender Associates of Cleveland. Mechanical and electrical engineering was performed by Bacik Karpinski Associates of Cleveland.
