Published 6/3/2001

University of Vermont College of Medicine and Fletcher Allen Health Care have broken ground on the Renaissance Project, a $173.4 million project uniting the two institutions in education, research, and patient care. The project includes construction of a new Education and Conference Center with a medical library, lecture hall, auditorium, classrooms, and study areas for small groups. The project will relocate outpatient specialty clinics from Fletcher Allen's University Health Campus to a new Ambulatory Care Center. Featuring a new Patient Access Center, the Ambulatory Care Center will house a "day hospital" and an 8-suite ambulatory surgery center, an ambulatory procedures unit and recovery facilities, a birthing center, an expanded emergency department, Vermont Cancer Center clinical space, a pharmacy, clinical labs, and radiology services. Head architect Tsoi/Kobus & Associates of Cambridge will be joined by construction managers Macomber Barton Malow, a joint venture of G.B.H. Macomber, Inc. of Boston and Barton Malow Company of Southfield, Mich.
