HealthAlliance Hospital Project Complete

A $38 million expansion of the Leominster, Mass. campus of HealthAlliance Hospitals Inc. was recently completed by The George B.H. Macomber Company, a Boston-base construction firm. Designed by DiGiorgio Associates, the project includes a 104,000-sf addition to the hospital consisting of a new main entrance, radiology, surgical, critical care services, and outpatient area. The building houses both medical-surgical and post-operative facilities, complete with an admitting area. The new addition also has an adjacent parking structure and a covered main entrance. Renovation of 34,000 sf in the Foster Wing includes the Emergency Department which will now be able to accommodate up to 65,000 patients annually. Surgical Services have increased in square footage from 15,000 sf to 28,000 sf, and the number of operating rooms from 5 to 8 with each room expanding from 250 sf to 600 sf. The recovery area has increased from 8 to 12 stage I recovery bays, with 20 stage II and III recovery beds available. Included in the new building is a 23,000-sf Patient Care Unit which houses 30 private rooms, ten of which are designated for joint replacement recovery. The Critical Care Unit has expanded from 7 to 10 beds, and the Radiology Department features increased privacy and state of the art equipment including mammography and bone densitometry services.
