Anna Bendix joined McGill in 2015. She is an architect and the Director Planning and Development for McGill’s largest infrastructure project, the New Vic, a 500,000 sq ft state-of-the-art research, teaching, and learning hub. The New Vic Project will be a catalyst for rethinking and reimagining the university model — dissolving boundaries between disciplines, communities and institutions — to focus on shared goals benefiting all of humanity. Playing a key role in the project since the early planning stages, Anna works on ensuring that the building passes through the planning and development phases without compromising the vision and while staying true to the high ambitions that McGill has set for this project.
Before joining the New Vic team, Anna headed the Master and Campus Planning team in McGill’s Planning and Development Office. Here she was responsible for developing the 2019 McGill Campus Master Plan, a comprehensive planning document to guide the evolution of the University’s campuses. Currently in the implementation phase, the Plan articulates a vision for increasing the quality of teaching, learning, research and student life— all while adhering to principles of sustainable growth, sound financial management, and responsible stewardship of heritage buildings.
Prior to joining McGill, Anna has been working with Saucier + Perrotte architects, an internationally renowned and award-winning Montreal architectural firm. Pertinent experience during that period includes the design for the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (Waterloo, Ontario), the Communication Culture and Technology Building (University of Toronto at Waterloo), the New College Student Residence (University of Toronto), and the McGill Faculty of Music Elizabeth Wirth pavilion, among many others.
