Gavilan College is expanding into San Benito County with the development of a new campus in Hollister. Designed by Gensler and Quattrocchi Kwok Architects, the first $60 million phase of construction will provide a 34,000-sf facility housing classrooms, a learning resource center, science and computer labs, a community room, administrative offices, support spaces, and a café. A welcoming lobby will encourage students to engage in informal interaction or explore academic offerings. Featuring flexible layouts with movable furniture, the modular building can easily adapt to accommodate evolving pedagogies, programs, and technologies.
The all-electric building will integrate the advanced infrastructure required for net-zero energy performance, with a photovoltaic array to be installed at a future date. The sustainably designed facility will also include an expansive entry plaza and an outdoor classroom. Blach Construction broke ground in November of 2023 on the project, which is being delivered via a progressive design-build methodology. Completion is expected by fall of 2025.
